Project Overview

  • Target: Overcome economic barriers in green hydrogen production by optimizing performance and scalability metrics for zero-gap Hydroxyl Exchange Membrane (HEM) alkaline electrolyzers.
  • Approach: Deployed multiphase transport CFD models in COMSOL to capture local gas-liquid fluid dynamics, electrode bubble coverage, and current distributions across 11 parallel flow channels.
  • Achievements: Determined key geometric rules for flow fields and inter-electrode spacing to successfully balance bubble detachment mechanics, reduce ohmic losses, and maximize mass transport under elevated cell pressures up to 20 bar.
